People often ask where I came up with the name Soul Fire. Well, I wanted our name to express what I wanted my practice to represent: massage which cares for the physical body, but also nourishes the spirit. I came up with a few ideas and then sent the list out to friends for their opinions. Soul Fire was the clear winner!

The name actually comes from a combination of two of my all-time favorite songs: Soulshine by The Allman Brothers and: Fire on the Mountain by The Grateful Dead.

Take a listen to the links above if you'd like and you can also read the full lyrics below. Maybe you'll see why these songs are such favorites of mine!

Soulshine by The Allman Brothers

When you can't find the light, That guides you on a cloudy day, When the

stars ain't shinin' bright, And you feel like you've lost you're way,

When the candle lights of home, Burn so very far away,

Well you got to let your soul shine, Just like my daddy used to say.

He used to say soulshine, It's better than sunshine,

It's better than moonshine, Damn sure better than rain.

Hey now people don't mind, We all get this way sometime,

Got to let your soul shine, shine till the break of day.

I grew up thinkin' that I had it made, Gonna make it on my own.

Life can take the strongest man, Make him feel so alone.

Now and then I feel a cold wind, Blowin' through my achin' bones,

I think back to what my daddy said, He said "Boy, in the darkness before the dawn..."

Let your soul shine, better than sunshine,

better than moonshine, damn sure better than rain.

Hey now people don't mind, We all get this way sometime,

Got to let your soul shine, shine till the break of day

Sometimes a man, can feel this emptiness,  Like a woman, has robbed him of his very soul.

A woman too, Lord knows, she can feel like this-

And when your world seems cold, You gotta let your spirit take control.

Fire on The Mountain by The Grateful Dead

Long distance runner, what you standin' there for?
Get up, get out, get out of the door
Your playin' cold music on the barroom floor
Drowned in your laughter and dead to the core.
There's a dragon with matches that's loose on the town
Take a whole pail of water, just to cool him down. on the mountain

Almost ablaze still you don't feel the heat
It takes all you got just to stay on the beat.
You say it's a livin', we all gotta eat
But you're here alone, there's no one to compete.
If Mercy's a business, I wish it for you
More than just ashes, when your dreams come true. on the mountain

Long distance runner, what you holdin' out for?
Caught in slow motion, in a dash for the door.
The flame from your stage has now spread to the floor
You gave all you had, why you wanna give more?
The more that you give, the more it will take
To the thin line beyond which, you really can't fake.
